HOURGLASS
After years of witnessing and creating music for dance choreography and improvisation, Robin Cox took on the idea of creating a community participation work encouraging dance movement through performance of a long-form composed arc of music. This concept and music for the first version HOURGLASS was developed in 2010, with seven performance events taking place over the next eighteen months by the Robin Cox Ensemble. An all-new Version Two of HOURGLASS was created by Cox in early 2013, this time for amplified violin, cello, and quadraphonic electronic sound. Version Two has received twenty four performance events, with more planned soon. Also fundamental to the work is three simultaneous video projections commissioned from video artist Lianne Arnold for this multidimensional concept piece, and dancer Stephanie Nugent begins each event with a guided movement facilitation and orientation to the concept.
